The International Photographic Council (IPC) is dedicated to increasing worldwide recognition of photography as a universal means of communication. Through a variety of efforts such as the awarding of scholarships to students and the recognition of professional photographers annually at the UN, IPC continues to promote photography in the spirit of its motto: “Peace Through Photography, the Universal Language.”

The IPC, a multinational, non-profit, non-commercial organization founded in 1974, is composed of representatives from every major sector of the photographic and imaging industry worldwide. In 1983 the United Nations officially recognized IPC as a Civil Society Organization formally associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.

Remembering James L. Chung

James L. Chung had a long career with Fujifilm U.S.A. He joined the IPC board in 1974 and soon after became president, a position he held until his death. He was a great mentor and inspiration to many in the photo imaging industry, always offering advice to those who looked up to him. Those who knew him, will remember his sense of humor, as he always started a meeting with one of his famous jokes to warm up the crowd. Although he was born in West Palm Beach, FL, James was a true New Yorker, having lived in Brooklyn, NY for much of his life with his wife Diane, who passed a few years before him. He is survived by four wonderful children. The board of directors of IPC are proud to honor him by creating the IPC James L. Chung Memorial Scholarship in his name.
