IPC/Sophie Smoliar Award Photokina 2012 to be awarded to Tim Hunt of UK
New York/ Brüssels, August 20, 2012—The IPC/Sophie Smoliar Scholarship of US $1000 by International Photographic Council (IPC), New York is presented bi-annually in connection with photokina in Cologne and goes to a European Student majors in photo-imaging with outstanding achievement.
This year’s recipient Mr. Tim Hunt, a 23 years old Photo Student at University College Falmouth UK , has been selected with the kind co-operation of Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP) and the prize ceremony will take place at photokina Professionals Stage, Hall 4.1. Booth I-50 Thursday, September 20. 2012 at 15.30 to 16.30. (3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.)
As a recent graduate from University College Falmouth, UK in 2010 Mr. Hunt have a BA in Marine and Natural History Photography and goes on to study an MA in TV Production at the same University. He did also study photography at Stratford-Upon-Avon-College for two years completed in 2007 with triple merit. Specializing in nature photography Tim Hunt in 2011 was chosen to represent his university at the FEP meeting in Leon, France. In addition Tim Hunt has joined several photographic competitions with good results. Last year he became a third place in the “Wildlife in The Garden” category of The Royal Horticultural Society photographic competition which among others led to an interview on Alan Titchmarch show with ITV.
In his application for the IPC/ Sophie Smoliar Scholarship Tim Hunt writes:
“From a very early age I’ve had a passion for the natural world. In 2007 I completed a National Diploma in Photography and since then I haven’t been able to put down a camera. This then led me to study more and go on to do a BA in Marine and Natural History Photography at University College Falmouth.
I have keen interests in all areas of photography but my passion lies within capturing the essence of the natural world. I believe my role as a natural history photographer is to allow people to see beauty in nature and if possible to provoke a reaction which in turn will help to preserve the natural world.” Says James Chung, President of International Photographic Council, New York: “Congratulations being elected to receive the IPC Scholarship on the occasion of photokina 2012 in Cologne in September.
