2006 Hall of Fame Award Honors Herbert Keppler
New Year Luncheon Presented by IPC
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, January 1, 2006—The International Photographic Council (IPC), a multinational non-profit organization of the United Nations dedicated to increasing worldwide recognition of photography as a universal means of communication, will hold its annual New Year’s Luncheon on January 24, 2006 from 11:30 AM-2:30 PM at the United Nations. The luncheon will include presentations by the Sports Illustrated Publisher, Photo Editor, and staff photographers, who will kick-off the XX Winter Olympics 2006 season to be held in Turin, Italy in February by showing exciting examples of sports photography and the world of Winter Olympics.
Herbert Keppler, Vice President, Popular Photography & Imaging and American Photo magazines, will be honored at the luncheon with the IPC “Hall of Fame Award” for his contributions to the photographic industry to support a common good for the advancement of photography. Prior to his position at Popular Photography & Imaging, Mr. Keppler was Editorial Director and Publisher of Modern Photography Magazine and Senior Vice President of ABC Leisure Magazines, a division of the American Broadcasting Company.
Mr. Keppler has authored seven books and periodicals on photography and is an outstanding photographer, as well as an expert in camera design. He is a graduate of Harvard College and has served as commanding officer in the Navy. Among the many awards Mr. Keppler has won, include “The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette” presented by His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan for his outstanding contributions to the development of the Japanese camera industry and the promotion of understanding between Japan and the United States.
